Inpatient

The Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA) in conjunction with the Cabinet for Health and Family Services launched the first comprehensive statewide opioid stewardship program in the country with a focus on prevention and education of best practices.

Since the inception of the KYSOS program in 2018, the intent and collective work to date has been on inpatient opioid stewardship efforts. The KYSOS program goals are to reduce opioid overprescribing, while improving safe opioid usage when opioids are warranted. Peer to peer learning and sharing of best practices between facilities is the hallmark for success with KYSOS. Monthly webinars, electronic newsletters and other resources are offered at no charge to KYSOS participating facilities.

For more information about the inpatient KYSOS program, contact Stacy Allen

  4. The organization uses evidence-based opioid-sparing analgesic regimens for select procedures (e.g. ERAS).
  5. The organization offers compassionate care to patients with opioid use disorder (OUD).
  6. The organization provides non-pharmacologic analgesia.
  7. The organization promotes safe opioid use by patients.
  8. The organization collaborates with community partners (e.g. clinics, home-based care, pharmacies, law enforcement, religious organizations, and government agencies) to promote appropriate use of opioids within the community.
